Pocklington Karate Centre Sqaud at the Yorkshire Karate Championships round 3
Martial Arts News (KKO) - On the 2nd October the Pocklington Karate Centre squad travelled through to Morley to compete in the third round of the WKA Yorkshire Karate Championships.
Jade Aikman, Simon Durrant, George Heaton, Alistair Playfair, all competed in the under 16 Traditional Kata section all performing their chosen Kata’s well showing good Karate ka, but were unfortunately unplaced and beaten by more experience competitors from the national and internal circuit.
Simon Goodall was competing in the under 16 brown and black belt section, again up against some of the best Kata performers in the country and again Simon performed a superb Kata but was unfortunately unplaced.
In the Adult coloured belt traditional Kata section, Steve Walker was up in only his second ever competition, performing a great Heian Yondan to achieve a well deserved 2nd place, against some of the more experienced international competitors form the Isles of Man.
In the Adults brown and black belt section, Daniel Goodall and Oliver Willison were competing. Even though Daniel was a little daunted in competing in this section, he performed very well under the pressure and is showing great potential for the future. Daniel performed Jiin, whilst Oliver suffering with a leg injury from the week before performed a Kata he has not performed in competitions for 10 months, Gankaku to achieve first place and also to win the Grand champion trophy for that section for 2005. This is the last competition before Oliver travels over to Canada to compete in the WKA World Championships in November, which he is really looking forward to, but his training has been seriously interrupted due to his leg injury, but will hopefully be back in training properly soon.
In the Junior team Kata section Team B (Alistair, Simon D and Simon G) performed their Heian Sandan unfortunately beaten by the three times winners of the YKC grand championship trophy and two international teams.
All the squad members are trying to encourage their chief instructor Frank Willison to come out of competition retirement to competing in one of the next competitions.
With the Christmas period quickly approaching the annual competition date will soon be announced, and will last years champion Daniel Goodall retain his title or will last year second and third places Jade Aikman and Adam Collinson pip him to the post or will some one else gain the championship title. Hopefully this year there will be more categories on including adult Kata sections.
The next grading date for Pocklington Karate Centre students is the 5th December, where students will be performing inform of a panel of black belts to achieve their next grade (belt). With the success of the last grading the coaches of Pocklington Karate Centre are hoping more students will be ready for the grading, and achieve just as good marks as last time.
